The Sick Rose

O Rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy;
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

William Blake
(Songs of Innocence and of Experience, 1794)

de Un poema cada día

LA ROSA ENFERMA

Estás enferma, Rosa.
El gusano invisible
que vuela en la noche
en la tormenta aullante

ha encontrado tu lecho
de placer carmesí
y su oscuro amor secreto
tu vida destroza.

William Blake
(Canciones de Inocencia y de Experiencia, 1794)

The little boy lost

Father, father, where are you going?
O do not walk so fast.
Speak, father, speak to your little boy,
Or else I shall be lost.

The night was dark, no father was there,
The child was wet with dew.
The mire was deep, & the child did weep,
And away the vapour flew.

William Blake
(Songs of Innocence, 1789)

EL NIÑO PERDIDO

¡Padre, padre! ¿Adónde vas?
No camines tan seguido.
Habla, padre, habla a tu niño
o, si no, estaré perdido.

La noche era oscura; no había ningún padre.
El niño estaba del rocío empapado.
La ciénaga era honda y el chico lloraba
y la bruma se fue alejando.

The Tiger

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? What the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

William Blake
(Songs of Experience, 1794)
